Chief Technology Officer

Role: CTO

Compensation: £110k-115k, bonus and EMI 

Location: Remote or Hybrid (willing to travel to Edinburgh 2x per month)

Our Purpose

At MRM Global, our purpose is to enable the world’s leading consumer brands to increase their sales and eliminate waste by providing technology that enables marketing materials to be created on-demand, customised for a local audience and manufactured near to the final destination.

Many of the world’s leading drinks brands including Bacardi, Carlsberg, Diageo, Pernod Ricard, Molson Coors and Campari use MRM Global’s Brand Creator technology to create customised and brand compliant marketing materials enabling them to grow sales through impactful marketing and reduce waste through our 100% on-demand global production network.

MRM Global is a high growth scale-up who have grown rapidly over the last 5 years with an average year on year revenue growth of 41%. MRM have expanded into 35 countries and in 2020 secured a growth capital investment of £2.6m from the British Growth Fund (BGF) to fund our continued growth with a focus on expanding rapidly in North America and significantly increasing investment in our technology.

Our next phase of growth is the most exciting yet as we scale the business globally and we’re looking for a brilliant hands-on technology leader to join us on our mission to fundamentally change the way that global brands deliver their physical marketing.

What you’ll do

  • This role presents an amazing opportunity for an individual who has been VP of Engineering in a mid-sized organisation for a while and they are ready to take on the bigger challenge of scaling the technology function of a high-growth business to become a truly technology and product-centric organisation. As part of the Senior Leadership team, you will work closely with the functional leaders and MRM’s board to provide technical leadership to the business.
  • Reporting to the CEO, this role represents the most senior technology position and requires an individual who thrives on taking responsibility, delivering change and enjoys delivering solutions that balance engineering excellence, capabilities, and business priorities.
  • You will be joining MRM Global at a pivotal moment where the business is moving from a boot-strapped start-up that has successfully gained product-market fit to a well-funded scale-up on its way to becoming the international market leader in its niche.

5 years on from launching BrandCreator, the platform has now reached the point where we need to invest further to continue providing an excellent user experience and to handle the scale that MRM require to take on larger clients.

You will be responsible for leading the creation of the next generation of our platform, including:

  • Creating a brand-new Progressive Web App that leverages the most advanced capabilities of this approach to deliver a best-in-class user experience for our clients.
  • Overseeing the efforts of our Product team in designing and delivering a seamless User Experience paired with a fresh and attractive User interface
  • Upgrading and simplifying our back-end infrastructure to enable the scaling, increased efficiency, and stability of our platform.

In addition, you will be responsible for:

  • Setting the strategic direction of the Engineering and Product teams so that it closely aligns with the ambitions of the business whilst ensuring that MRM Global is considered an industry-leading technology company amongst its peers.
  • Informing and advising the board and representing the business in all matters to do with technology, engineering, and product.
  • Recruiting experienced hires and building a high performing engineering team including roles such as principal and senior engineers, delivery managers, test engineers, etc.
  • Ensuring the implementation of best-practice processes, systems and ways of working.
  • Building a user-focused engineering culture that retains and attracts top talent
  • Managing, coaching and developing members of the senior technical team.
  • Ensure that the career progression opportunities within the technology team are always central to the team’s growth and that recognition and feedback are always part of the culture where everything is treated as a chance to learn and move forward.
  • Defining the technology strategy and architecture to position MRM Global as a forward-thinking technology organisation.
  • Work closely with our Product team to ensure that, in combination with the engineering team, we can realise our ambitious product roadmap at speed with a focus on user experience.
  • Support non-technical teams to make technical decisions that align with our business objectives and long-term goals with ultimate responsibility for technical decision making and budget across the business.

What you’ll bring

  • A very strong product and software engineering background, ideally in scalable distributed applications.
  • Experience building, running and leading high performing, autonomous cross-functional technology teams.
  • Experience preparing the team for and transitioning them during high growth.
  • An excellent understanding of a broad set of modern technologies across front-end, back-end and data platforms with recent hands-on software engineering experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working with senior leaders across the business.
  • Experience working with Product on aligning the technology strategy to the product’s ambition.
  • Experience integrating technology into the wider business strategy.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high growth, scale-up organisation.
  • Proven experience of creating a forward-thinking technology culture
